One of the clearest messages in Scripture is that God cares deeply about how we treat one another—especially the vulnerable, the poor, and the overlooked. At Shine Your Light Foundation, this truth fuels everything we do. We don’t serve just to be kind—we serve because it is the very heart of God. It’s what He expects of His children.
The Sheep and the Goats – Matthew 25
In Matthew 25:31–46, Jesus tells a sobering parable. At the final judgment, the Son of Man
separates people into two groups—sheep and goats—based not on what they believed, but on
how they responded to human need. He says to the sheep:
“I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to
drink… I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”
—Matthew 25:35–36
The righteous are surprised, asking, “Lord, when did we do these things for You?” And He
replies: “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you
did for Me.”
—Matthew 25:40
Jesus so deeply identifies with the suffering that how we treat the poor is how we treat Him.
It’s not a side issue. It’s a central measure of a life aligned with the Kingdom of God.
The Call to Radical Generosity – John the Baptist
In Luke 3:10–11, when the crowds ask John the Baptizer what they should do to prepare their
hearts for the Messiah, his answer is practical and personal:
“Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food
should do the same.”
This wasn’t theoretical spirituality. It was the real-world outworking of repentance—sharing
with those in need.
At Shine Your Light, we see this happen every day: people giving what they have—time, money,
talents—to make sure a child eats, learns, and knows they are loved. In a world where so many
have more than they need, John’s call remains relevant and urgent.
The Greatest Love – Laying Down Our Lives
Jesus takes it one step further. In John 15:13, He defines the highest form of love:
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
This doesn’t always mean dying. More often, it means living sacrificially—laying down our
comfort, preferences, and convenience so that someone else can thrive. That’s what our
supporters do when they sponsor a Shine Scholar, provide meals through Egg-A-Day, or invest in
a community across the world they may never visit. They’re laying something down so that
someone else can rise.
We Will Be Judged by Love in Action
These Scriptures are not just inspiration—they’re instruction. God’s judgment, according to
Jesus, takes into account how we treated the people He cares about most. Our faith is made
complete by our love in action.
So let’s be people who shine our light not just with words, but with deeds—feeding the hungry,
clothing the poor, mentoring the next generation, and loving like Jesus.
Let’s live like we’ll be held accountable for how we loved.
