The Story Behind Shine Your Light
Darrell and Shai’s journey began in 2019 at Austin Seminary, where their deep connection blossomed into a love story with a vision to transform nations. Though separated by the pandemic, they were reunited in the Philippines in March 2022, married in August, and set out to build a home for children in need, creating a place of hope and refuge.
Their passion led them to visit orphanages across nearby islands in the Philippines, volunteer with organizations, and preach at youth events. As they prayed for guidance, God revealed that proximity was key to transforming lives. With this clarity, they settled in the community where their home was being built and began their ministry there.
Starting with Bible studies, snacks, and meals for children, their gatherings grew into a regular Sunday service. Darrell and Shai tutored the children, offering love, hope, and encouragement each week, establishing a strong foundation for change in the community.
This ministry evolved into the Shine Your Light Foundation, which empowers children to overcome poverty, thrive in education, and find victory and purpose in Christ. The Foundation is committed to transforming lives, shifting mindsets from scarcity to abundance, and creating a hopeful future for generations to come.

Our Vision
Meet the Founders
We are Darrell and Shaira Wood, the founders of Shine Your Light Foundation. Our journey is one of redemption and purpose, shaped by God’s call to bring hope to the most vulnerable.
Shaira grew up in the Philippines in a small fishing village, where she experienced firsthand the challenges of poverty. Despite her family’s struggles, Shaira excelled in school through the mentorship of compassionate teachers who saw her potential. With their support, she became the first in her family to graduate college. Shaira later pursued higher education in the United States but returned to the Philippines, driven by God’s call to serve her people. Her story is a testament to the power of education, faith, and determination to transform lives.
Darrell, a businessman with a strategic mind, spent years pursuing financial freedom until God redirected his path. With a seminary education and a heart for service, Darrell brings a vision of sustainable impact, empowering families and communities through programs that reflect Christ’s healing and restoration. Together, we are committed to making a generational impact for children in need.
